- I booked in with Olha for eyebrow tattooing after years of contemplating, after a very informative consultation we decided to go with Powder Brows. I wanted to get nano brows or microblading but Olha talked me into powder brows saying they were better for me. I was worried as I often don't wear make up and didn't want them to look harsh, drawn on/fake or too bold. I had sparse brows in parts, they were not symmetrical and I was unsure if they could even be fixed but I honestly could not be more pleased with how they have turned out. They also look natural which was so important to me. My brows look natural but really groomed and it makes me feel so much better about it. I am so glad I trusted her expertise and went with the brows she suggested. Now I only wish I'd had them done them sooner, but so glad I waited and found Olha. I must warn anyone to remember most of the first week you might have brow shock haha but trust the process! (I definitely did for the first week while they heal as they look so fresh / darker than how they will turn out and too new, I knew this was a thing but couldn't help but worry while waiting!) Also, for my touch up, I was expecting to have it again but it was just a refinement and I was happy to go places that day. A true expert at what she does and I could not be more grateful. I cannot stress enough how happy I am with the results. Thank you Olha!read moreread lessTari T1/03/2026

What is Microshading?
If you’re considering getting this popular permanent makeup treatment, you need to know a few key things before taking the plunge. From understanding how microshading works and preparing for the procedure to selecting an experienced technician and following brow tattoo aftercare tips, these are all important steps in ensuring that you will be delighted with your results.
Microshading brows is a procedure that fills the gaps between the hairs by tattooing small dots or points using a special needle. It does not attempt to contour your brows or add hair strokes. Instead, it is focused on “micro shading”, mimicking the effect of a soft pencil or powder on your brows.
Benefits
- Great solution for people with sensitive skin
- Long-lasting even if you have an oily skin
- Eyebrows look soft and natural after the procedure—no contouring will be done
- Can correct asymmetry and improve the shape of the brows
- Relatively less painful than microblading (feather eyebrows)
- Results can last up to 4 years with regular touchup and maintenance
- Shade and pigment can be customised to match your skin, hair colour, and preference
Disadvantages
- Without touchups, microshading can only last for up to 8 months
- Potential skin irritation like itching, redness, and swelling after the procedure
- Expect to experience some light pain during the eyebrow shading procedure
Preparation for treatmnet
Before your permanent eyebrow shading appointment, you should keep a few things in mind.Avoid using skin care products with acids and retinol a few days before getting your brows treated. People with sensitive skin can have a negative reaction to dyes and pigments, so it is best to prevent to stay away from products with strong chemicals.Do not exercise, consume caffeine or alcohol, sunbathe, visit a sauna, or pluck your eyebrows twenty-four hours before microshading.
What happens during the procedure
Eyebrow shading tattoo can be done in 1.5 to 2 hours. These are the steps or stages that you will undergo:
- Cleaning of the eyebrow area
- An antiseptic will be applied for disinfection
- The cosmetic tattooing specialist prepares and outlines the eyebrows to their new shape
- Unnecessary brow hairs are plucked
- Application of anaesthetic cream
- Actual microshading tattooing session
Aftercare
After the eyebrow microshading procedure, your cosmetic tattoo specialist will provide specific aftercare instructions. Remember that your skin needs time to recover, so strict aftercare adherence is a must.Following the treatment, it is best to minimise sunlight exposure. Refrain from swimming in outdoor pools or other bodies of water, and avoid getting the eyebrows wet for three days.To speed up the healing process, do not apply any kind of cosmetics near the brow area. Wait for a few weeks and show up at your scheduled correction appointment.
Touch-up and Correction
A touch-up is required after 30 to 40 days. This is because much of the pigment will be gone after the first or initial microshading session. After the second session, your brows can retain more pigment. Hence, eyebrows will look much better, and the results can last 18 months.
Microblading vs Microshading: which is better?
There is no standard answer to this question. The whole microshading vs eyebrow microblading thing will actually depend on you. What kind of look do you want to achieve? How sensitive is your skin? These factors will have to be taken into consideration before you decide on which permanent eyebrow shading treatment to choose.
You also have the option of getting a powder eyebrow tattoo instead. We recommend consulting a reputable permanent makeup artist to understand which brow tattoo treatment is best for you.
Microshading Eyebrow Artist
At Face Figurati in Melbourne, I specialise in microshading (powder/ombré brows) for a soft, blended finish that looks like perfectly applied brow makeup—without the daily effort. I custom-map each shape to your facial architecture and hair growth, then build a gentle front fade with a slightly deeper body and tail for balanced lift. Using a precise machine technique and premium, EU-compliant pigments, I tailor density for your skin type (beautiful on oily or mature skin) and desired intensity—from whisper-soft tint to fuller, makeup-ready definition. Sessions are comfort-managed with sterile, single-use cartridges and council-compliant hygiene, with honest expectations, clear aftercare and a perfecting visit at 6–8 weeks to refine symmetry and saturation. Natural, polished, and built to heal beautifully.
FAQ
What is microshading and who is it best for?
Microshading gives you that soft “powder brow” tint without daily pencil work. I create a misty wash of colour with ultra-fine dots, not hair strokes. It’s brilliant for oily/combination or sensitive skin, gym lovers, and anyone who prefers a softly filled-in makeup look.
How is microshading different from microblading and combo brows?
Microblading = individual hair strokes; great on dry/normal skin.
Microshading = a diffused tint like brow powder; suits most skin types.
Combination brows = hair strokes at the front + shading through the body and tail.
How long does it last?
On average 1.5–3 years before a colour boost. Your skin type, skincare (retinoids/acids), and Melbourne’s UV all play a role. Daily sunscreen after healing keeps colour truer, longer.
Does it hurt?
I use premium topical anaesthetics and a gentle hand. Most clients rate it 2–4/10 and relax through the session.
How long does the appointment take?
Plan for 2–3 hours for your first visit (consult, mapping, colour match and treatment), then 60–90 minutes for your perfecting session 6–10 weeks later.
What’s the healing timeline?
Days 1–2: brows look bolder/darker (normal).
Days 3–7: light flaking—no picking.
Weeks 2–3: colour softens and may look lighter.
Weeks 4–6: final tone settles; we perfect details at your touch-up.
How should I prep?
- 24 hours before: no alcohol or heavy caffeine.
- Several days before (if medically appropriate): avoid blood thinners/fish oil.
- 1–2 weeks before: pause retinoids/acids on the brow area.
- 1 week before: avoid intense sun/tanning/solarium.
- No Botox two weeks before/after brows. If you’re prone to cold sores (for future lip work)
What aftercare do I follow?
Keep the area dry Day 1, then follow my written plan: gentle cleanse, thin balm, no picking. Skip sweaty workouts, saunas and swimming for 7–10 days. Once healed, SPF every morning is non-negotiable.
Is microshading good for oily or sensitive skin?
Yes—this is often the better choice than microblading because pixel shading heals softer and more evenly on oily/sensitive or mature skin.
Can you microshade over an old brow tattoo?
Sometimes. If your old brows are very dark, cool/grey or asymmetrical, I may recommend saline lightening or laser first. Many sets can be colour-corrected and then microshaded—after I assess your skin in person.
How do you choose my shape and colour?
At Face Figurati, I map to your facial architecture and bone structure, then customise pigment to your undertone for an authentic, face-flattering result—never a “one-shape-fits-all.”
My brows look too dark—did something go wrong?
No—early darkness is normal. Brows usually soften 20–40% by Day 7–10. The final tone appears by Weeks 4–6; we fine-tune at your perfecting session.
When can I exercise, swim or use a sauna?
Wait 7–10 days for heavy sweating, swimming and steam rooms. Salt/chlorine and heat can fade fresh pigment and disrupt healing.
How much does it cost and what’s included?
Pricing is confirmed at consult, but new sets include: consultation, custom mapping and colour selection, your initial treatment, written aftercare, and a perfecting session at 6–10 weeks.
Who isn’t a candidate?
I don’t treat during pregnancy. You may need medical clearance if breastfeeding, on blood thinners, undergoing chemo, used isotretinoin in the past 12 months, or have a keloid history. Any active eczema/dermatitis/psoriasis on the brow must be fully settled.
When should I book a colour boost?
Most clients book every 12–24+ months. If you’re a retinol devotee, beach lover or have very oily skin, you might prefer an earlier refresh.
